Tue 14th Sep 2010France crowned 2010 FIP European ChampionsLast Sunday, 12 September, a youthful French side defeated the Spanish Armada 10-8 to win the FIP European Championships at Polo Club Schloss Ebreichsdorf in Austria
The French side were led by three-goalers Robert Strom playing at 1 and Edward Pan at 4. They held onto the lead for most of the game before the Spanish rallied in the final chukka to level the score at 8-8. However, Strom grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and sank two field goals leaving the final score 10-8. Crowd favourites England beat the Swiss in the race for third place. The England all-ladies side scored five goals in the second chukka to realistically put the game beyond doubt before half time. Big hitting from Nina Clarkin and Emma Tomlinson combined with some fierce riding off from Clare Milford Haven and Tamara Vestey ensured that England cantered home 8- 5.5. The final rankings for the 10 teams that took part were as follows: 1. France 2. Spain 3. England 4. Switzerland 5. Italy 6. Germany 7. Netherlands 8. Slovakia 9. Austria 10.
