Mon 22nd Sep 2025Octogone Lift 25th Open de France Barnes 9-6 win against Kazak in the Final at Chantilly
On Sunday 21 September, Kazak and Octogone went head-to-head in the 25th Open de France Barnes at Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly. Kazak won the title in 2023 whilst Octogone were striving for their first French Open title.
Kazak got off to a strong start with three opening goals to take the lead at the end of the first chukka, 3-1, but Octogone began to take control in the second chukka. Despite Octogone’s Pelón Stirling suffering a fall after his pony stumbled, he remounted after assessment and scored three of his team’s nine goals. Louis Hine, as the tournament’s second highest goal scorer – and who received the Most Valuable Player Award in the Semi Final match – scored four of Octogone’s goals and shone in attack. Octogone effectively locked down Kazak’s top scorer, Fran Elizalde, who only scored one goal in the Final, and widened their advantage to secure a 9-6 win and the first French Open title for Alexis Morange.
Stirling was chosen as the Most Valuable Player; Morange received the Amateur Most Valuable Player Award; Oriental Malaquita, played by Hine and owned by Stirling was the AACCP BPP; Open Big Sister, played by Elizalde, was the Best Playing Pony and Octogone received the Standing Rock Fair Play Award.
