Mon 14th Jan 2019Dutta Corp’s American ReignJoe Barry Cup Final
In the greatly anticipated Final of the second high goal tournament of the American season, Dutta Corp once again secured the title, with an 11-8 win against Patagones at The International Polo Club Palm Beach. It has been a close contest between Dutta Corp and Patagones so far this season, but this Final was testament to Dutta Corp’s continued strength. Using Timmy Dutta as the receiver in the lower field, Dutta Corp were able to consistently gain and maintain the advantage, constantly forcing Patagones back into their own half. The normally strong Patagones attacking duo, Tomás García del Rio and Santiago Toccalino could not overcome the Dutta Corp defence, ensuring Dutta Corp held their three goal lead. With three missed penalties from Patagones in the final chukka, they sealed their fate and Dutta Corp held on for their fifth consecutive Joe Barry Cup victory. Gringo Colombres was honoured with the Most Valuable Player award, whilst his pony Coquito was named Best Playing Pony. This was the second consecutive week of award wins for both player and pony, having secured the MVP and BPP in The Herbie Pennell Cup last week. The next step in the USA high goal season will be the 20 goal Ylvisaker Cup, which kicks off on Saturday 19 January The Joe Barry Cup Final Teams: Dutta Corp (20): Timmy Dutta (2), Lucas Diaz Alberdi (5), Gringo Colombres (7) & Kris Kampsen (7) Patagones (20): Joaquín Avendaño (2), Benjamin Avendaño (3), Santiago Toccalino (8) & Tomás García del Rio (7) Photograph: Dutta Corp secured their fifth consecutive win in The Joe Barry Cup.
