Sotogrande Season Continues

Flurry of matches played on Sunday and Monday

Sunday 20 August saw a triumvirate of matches played at Santa María Polo Club across the high and medium goal Gold Cups. The 20 goal saw Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada defeat Ayala 13-12 after an impressive comeback from a score of 8-12 going into the last chukka. Four consecutive goals saw Dos Lunas tie the scores and pushed the match into a deciding extra chukka, in which Facundo Sola had no trouble scoring the winning goal. Post-match Facundo commented, “We were very lucky, the truth is that with only four minutes to go we were losing by four goals and I saw it was very complicated. But I made a click and started a great comeback that put us again in the match. In the first chukka Pascual Sainz of Vicuña was injured and left the field and Martín Iturraspe replaced him. Despite a change of player and also of system, luckily it went well and we won a game that put us back in the fight to qualify for the Semi Finals”. The high goal Semi Finals will be played for on Friday 25 August, with the Finals on Sunday 27 August. Yesterday evening, La Indiana took on Lechuza Caracas in the high goal section beating them 11-10 in an exceedingly close match. With this win, they progress to the Semi Finals alongside Ayala Polo Team and Lechuza Caracas The last place will be decided next week between Dos Lunas A&G Banca Privada and Dubai Polo Team.

The action continued in the Aerolíneas Argentinas Gold Cup on Sunday as well with the final qualifiers before the Semi Finals on Thursday 23 August. The two matches saw Marqués de Riscal defeat Golden Goose 10-8 and Royal Salute defeated Bardon 7-3. This means that Marqués de Riscal and Royal Salute will join Equus and Bardon in the Semi Finals today, Tuesday 22 August.
In the Isolas 1892 Low Goal Gold Cup, it has been confirmed that Jolly Rogers, La Clarita, Sapphire and FCT Sotovila will play in the final round.
This afternoon, Tuesday 22 August, Golden Goose will face Twenty/20 in the medium goal.
