Mon 14th Nov 2016123rd HSBC Argentine Open BeginsLa Dolfina and Alegria win their first games La Dolfina opened the tournament with a win against Cría Yatay with a final score that will haunt Cría Yatay for some time to come. The result was never going to be pretty, but a 22-7 with Joaquin Pittaluga and his team failing to score for five straight chukkas will certainly have been tough to take. They went into the final chukka 18 goals down, but had their most successful run of the game, scoring four goals before the final whistle went. The two teams last met in the opening game of The Hurlingham Open with a similar ending. The second game on Saturday 12 November was between Alegría and Washington who last played each other in the fourth game of The Hurlingham Open, as with the La Dolfina game, the outcome was very similar. Fred Mannix and his team Alegría left the first throw-in meaning business and pushed forward to score and gain advantage very early on to lead the scores 12-6 at half-time. Washington regrouped and managed to double their goals and whilst Alegría’s progress slowed, it was not slow enough for their opposition to find enough goal scoring time to overtake, thanks to the power house of Hilario Ulloa, who scored 10 of Alegría’s 18 goals. The two other games scheduled for Sunday 13 November have been postponed to Monday 14 November after heavy rain prevented play from going ahead.
