Mon 3rd Oct 2016Tortugas Open UpdateTriple Crown Begins
Tuesday 27 September saw The Tortugas Open begin, kicking off the Triple Crown 2016. In Zone A, La Aguada Las Monjitas took on El Paraíso, which saw the La Aguada Las Monjitas line-up of no less than four Novillo Astradas (Alejandro, Eduardo, Miguel and Ignacio) claim a 11-10 victory against El Paraíso (Agustin Merlos, Ignacio Toccalino, Ignacio Heguy and Santiago Toccalino). Meanwhile, Zone B saw Alegría (Fred Mannix, Hilario Ulloa, Guillermo Caset & Lucas Monteverde) take on Washington (Diego Cavanagh, Ezequiel Ferrario, Facundo Sola and Alfredo Cappella). It was a game of two halves, with the final chukka seeing a flurry of attacking shots and a final score of 12 goals to 11 in favour of Alegría. On Saturday 1 October, La Dolfina faced El Paraíso in Zone A. The match saw defending Triple Crown champions La Dolfina demolish El Paraíso with a staggering ten goal lead and final score of 15-5, as a mighty tide of La Dolfina strength continued throughout the match. El Paraíso failed to score a goal until the third chukka, and as each chukka passed, the experience and might of La Dolfina showed, especially the phenomenal horsepower of Cambiaso’s string, which saw him play six clones of the revered Cuartetera. The victory was La Dolfina’s 34th unbeaten match in The Triple Crown, with non-stop wins since 2012. Meanwhile, for El Paraíso the loss meant the end of the road for them in The Tortugas Open, having suffered two defeats, to La Dolfina on Saturday and La Aguada Las Monjitas last Tuesday. On Sunday 2 October, in Zone B, Ellerstina were scheduled to play Washington, however the match was suspended by rain and is rescheduled to be played today, Monday 3 October. After today, the next matches scheduled are as follows, Saturday 8 October (Zone A) La Dolfina vs La Aguada Las Monjitas, Sunday 9 October (Zone B) Ellerstina vs Alegría, with the Final to be played on Saturday 15 October. Saturday 2 October teams: La Dolfina (40): Adolfo Cambiaso (10), Pelon Stirling (10), Pablo Mac Donough (10) & Juan Martín Nero (10) El Paraíso (35): Agustin Merlos (9), Ignacio Toccalino (9), Ignacio Heguy (9) & Santiago Toccalino (8) Photograph: La Dolfina and El Paraíso battle it out.
