Although polo is sadly not yet an Olympic sport, with many of us enjoying crossing between the equine disciplines, and with the Rio Olympics 2016 about to kick-off, here Polo Times brings you the full schedule for the eventing, dressage and show-jumping. Rio Olympics Eventing Always action packed, the eventing competition starts with two days of dressage, followed by a single day of cross-country, and a final day of showjumping. There are two rounds of showjumping on the final day; the first round decides the team medals, the top 25 riders then jump for a second time for individual honours. • 6 August: Dressage (UK time: 2pm – 8.00pm) • 7 August: Dressage (UK time: 2pm – 8.00pm) • 8 August: Cross-country (UK time: 2pm – 7.00pm) • 9 August: Showjumping (team and individual rounds), plus medal ceremonies (UK time: 2pm – 7.30pm) Rio Olympics Dressage For those with a keen eye for precision schooling, the dressage competition really is a must watch. The schedule starts with two days of Grand Prix, followed by a single day of Grand Prix Special, which when combined decide the team medals. The individual medals are then decided on the Final day in the Grand Prix Freestyle with the top 18 riders from the previous three days’ action competing. • 10 August: Grand Prix day one (UK time: 2pm – 8.00pm) • 11 August: Grand Prix day two (UK time: 2pm – 8.00pm) • 12 August: Grand Prix special & medal ceremony (UK time: 2pm – 8.30pm) • 15 August: Grand Prix freestyle & individual medal ceremony (UK time: 2pm- 6pm) Rio Olympics Showjumping The Showjumping will again be packed into four days, with the first three days contributing to the team medals. Only the top 35 competitors after the first three days go through to the individual finals, which are run over two rounds on a single day to decide the individual medals. • 14 August: first qualifier (UK time: 2pm – 5.45pm) • 16 August: team round one (UK time: 2pm – 5.30pm) • 17 August: team round two, plus medal ceremony (UK time: 2pm – 4.45pm) • 19 August: individual final, plus medal ceremony (UK time: 2pm – 6.45pm) |
