Mon 30th Mar 2015FIP World Championships continue in ChileEngland to play in the Semi Finals tomorrow
With a late start to the tournament and their first game delayed further by the opening ceremony, the England team’s FIP campaign didn’t quite get off to the start they had hoped for. The team suffered a loss in their first game against the home side, Chile, but not without a fight. The English quartet hung on through the first three chukkas – arguably assisted by the Chilean team’s fouling – before catching up in the last chukka to draw at 9-all. However, Chile managed to convert a 60-yard penalty to win the match 10-9. In their second game of the draw, England faced Pakistan. The latter’s squad selection of three 4 goal players and a 2 goaler was counter-balanced with England’s more even line-up of the youngest players on the squad, Pearson and Hyde both playing off 2 goals paired with 5 goalers, Emerson and Webb. England were able to achieve a convincing win against the Pakistan team with a final score of 13-6 and assured a place in the Semi Finals rescheduled for tomorrow when they will play the USA team. The Americans are the top of the Zone B leader board having defeated Argentina and Brazil. The second of the Semi Finals will take place between Brazil and Chile whilst Argentina and Pakistan have both been knocked out. The England squad in Chile also includes Polo Manager Anthony Fanshawe from Guards Polo Club and substitute players, Ollie Cudmore, Ed Hitchman and Jack Mesquita. However, with the Semi Final position now assured, it looks unlikely that a change in the line-up will go ahead before tomorrow’s game.
