Thu 19th Feb 2015Ylvisaker Cup Final teams decidedThis Sunday Coca-Cola and Valiente will play the Final
Coca-Cola and Valiente will take to the Engel and Völkers field this Sunday to play the Final of the Ylvisaker Cup. Coca-Cola (Gillian Johnston, Sugar Erskine, Julio Arellano and Mason Wroe) won their Semi Final game against Villa del Lago (Jim Zenni, Augustine Obregon, Polito Pieres and Julian de Lusarreta), with a convincing score of 14-9 on the first game on Wednesday 18 February. Following Polito’s performance in the Quarter Finals, there were great expectations for a fast flowing game with high scores. The fourth and fifth chukkas were the downfall for Villa del Lago as Coca-Cola steamed ahead from their 7-6 lead at the end of the third chukka to score three goals in the fourth and another three in the fifth to make 13-6. Villa del Lago didn’t score again until the sixth chukka, but it was already too late as Lusarreta made a last ditch attempt at goal to make the final score 14-9. Valiente (Tommy Beresford, Peke Gonzalez, Santi Torres and Sapo Caset) secured their place in the Final in the second game of the day against Lucchese (John Muse, Magoo Laprida, Nico Pieres and Andres Weisz) with a final score of 11-8. Valiente were off on the wrong foot before the start of the game as team Captain Bob Jornayvaz, his son Robert (sidelined with an injury) and Adolfo Cambiaso were all missing from the usual line-up. The replacement team did well to come back and win with a narrow lead to secure their position in Sunday’s Final. The Haas Cup Semi Final between Gateway Merchants and Palm Beach Illustrated will produce the team for the Haas Cup Subsidiary Final against the already qualified Tonkawa in the first game of Sunday’s Finals to conclude the three week tournament.
