Fri 23rd Jan 2015Teams decided for Thailand Polo King’s Cup FinalKing Power and Ahmibah Brunei will meet in tomorrow’s Final
The final league games of the Thailand Polo King’s Cup were played yesterday. King Power had already achieved two consecutive victories in their games on Tuesday and Wednesday, and as a result was the first side to secure a place in Saturday’s Final. However, their fellow finalist wasn’t decided until yesterday afternoon. The main match of the day was between Global Port and Ahmibah Brunei. With one win apiece, victory would give one side their second win, and also a place in the tournament’s Final. HRH Prince Jefri Bolkiah was quick to lead his side in the right direction, adding an early goal to the scoreboard for Ahmibah Brunei. Continuing as they began, the half time result saw Ahmibah Brunei maintaining their earlier advantage, 4.5 goals to 3. However, by the final chukka, the tables had turned with Global Port making a come back to take the lead 5-4.5, with just minutes of play remaining. Having had a reasonably quiet second half, it seemed that Ahmibah Brunei had merely been saving themselves for a last minute attack as HRH Prince Jefri Bolkiah and his teammates, HH Prince Qawi, Francisco Bensadon and Ale Agote, produced one final goal to take the score to 5.5-5. Ahmibah Brunei succeeded in preventing Global Port from replying goal, sustaining their half a goal advantage, meaning they will go on to face King Power in the main event tomorrow. Earlier on in the day, spectators had watched as Tang Polo beat Brunei Polo 10-8. Both sides had suffered a defeat to already confirmed Finalists King Power in their previous league game and therefore, despite the victory, Tang Polo will compete for third place in this afternoon’s matches, with Brunei Polo competing for 5th prize. The Subsidiary Finals are due to take place this afternoon with Brunei Polo and BP Healthcare competing for 5th place at 16.00 and Tang Polo and Global Port playing for 3rd at 17.30. Tomorrow’s Final, featuring King Power and Ahmibah Brunei, is set to kick off at 17.30 on the VR Field.
