The New Zealand Savile Cup kicks off

First games played for in The Riddiford & Levin and Wilson Cups

The historic Savile Cup tournament, being held at the Rangitikei Polo Club this year, has begun with games in The Riddiford & Levin Cup 3 goal and The Wilson Cup 6 goal. The results from the first day in the 3 goal tournament include a win for Wanstead B (Robbie Hunter (0), Jonny Jones (1), Cody Jones (1) and John Reisima (1)) against Waimai Elco Direct (Andre Parrott (0), Richard Seavill (1), Toby Pitts (2) and Simon Bennett (0)), whilst Rangitikei B (Harriet McKelvie (0), Campbell Davis (1), Ben McKenzie (1) and Nathan Schimanski (1)) defeated Poverty Bay (Andy Moore (1), Neville Clark (2), Susie Hamilton (0) and Laura Clark (-1)) with a final score of 4-1. Rangitikei C (Douglas Duncan (0), Tom Duncan (-1), Sam Duncan (2) and Mark Duncan (2)) and Hawke’s Bay B  (Laura Harris (-1), Dan Coddington (1), Ollie Jones (1) and Nick Coddington (2)) drew five all. Also playing in the tournament is UK player and Cowdray member, Will Brasher (2). He joins Fiona Alexander (0), Charlie Thompson (1) and Tony Van den Brink (0) for the Auckland C team.

In The Wilson Cup 6 goal, the first match of the contest was won by Christchurch against Hawke's Bay A with a final score of 8-4. The Hawke's Bay A line-up includes some familiar faces that have played the UK summer season: Aaron Vowles (3) and Jonny Coddington (4) playing alongside Anna Wood (-2) and Jared Thompson (1). The first games in The Farmlands Savile Cup are between Wanstead A and Waimai Piquet Hill and Rangitikei against Cambridge A.

With only four games out of 41 played so far, there are still 148 chukkas in this huge tournament to go before the winners of The Mackenzie Salver, The Riddiford & Leven Cup, The Wilson Cup and last but not least, The Farmlands Savile Cup can be announced.
