International Ladies Tournament circuit continues to Malaysia

The Malaysian Ladies Polo Championship started today with a win for Sarah Wiseman

Now in its third year, The Malaysian Ladies Polo Championship, sponsored by Visa International, is being held at the Royal Selangor Polo Club, Kuala Lumpur. The tournament has a total of four teams entered including players from Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, USA and the home nation, Malaysia. The first round of games was played today and resulted in a win for Sarah Wiseman’s team, La Pampa. Her team line-up included fellow Brit, Claire Brougham and Melissa Tiernan from Germany (all three girls having played in last weekend’s Singapore International Ladies Tournament) with Malaysia’s Fazila Filippi joining them as their fourth teammate. They beat La Justina (Abigail Slater (ENG), Datin Norlin Khan (MAS), Paola Martinez (ARG) and Mumy Bellande (ARG)) for The De Jouer Cup, 2 goals to 1.

Earlier in the afternoon, Windhorse International took to the field featuring Moyne Polo Club's April Kent, Jennifer Too from Malaysia, Australia’s Chloe Kiely and 3 goal American, Sunny Hale, one of the best female polo professionals in the world. They beat Abby Riggs from America, Dayelle Fargey from Canada and Malaysia’s Lorna Dodd and Tengku Uzira of Tu Polo with a resounding final score of 9 goals to 4 ½ for The Zack’s Tack Cup.

Tomorrow La Justina take on Tu Polo for The Royal Salute Cup and La Pampa take on Windhorse International for The Argentine Cup in the second round of the tournament to decide the line-up for the Final on Saturday 18 October.
