THE SOUTH AFRICA Open concluded at Plettenberg Bay Polo with a narrow win for BMFT. It proved to be a family victory, with Buster, Chris and Mike Mackenzie joining forces, playing alongside Mike Osbourne. The team defeated Super Guava – George Morgan, Shaun Brokensha, Gareth Evans and Richard Pohl – 8.5-8 in the final. Four teams took part in the Open, with British two-goaler Alex Mains among them, playing for Newstead. While not reaching the main final, Mains triumphed in the 2-goal section, playing for Sevenoaks alongside South Africans Ben and James Crowe and fellow Brit Tom Brodie. The tournament marked the end of the season at Plettenberg Bay, with polo resuming in December.
