Fri 2nd Nov 2012Guards names new polo manager Glen Gilmore will take over the role of polo manager at Guards Polo Club
GUARDS POLO CLUB has announced that Glen Gilmore has been appointed as the club's new polo manager.
Gilmore is the captain of the Australian polo team and played off an eight-goal handicap at the height of his career. He is due to take up the position at Guards on 1 April 2013.
“I am delighted to take up this role at Guards, especially as some of my most memorable games have been played on the high-goal grounds at Smiths Lawn,” said Gilmore. “This is, without doubt, the number one job in polo management anywhere in the world.
“The opportunity to work closely with the great team at Guards, creating some of the wold's best-known polo tournaments, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Neil Hobday, chief executive of Guards Polo Club and chairman of the selection panel said, “Glen Gilmore is definitely the right man for the job.”
Gilmore is already a familiar face at Guards Polo Club, having been the club's chief umpire and a board member where he represented the high-goal professional players, as well an occasional commentator.
He has also been a member of many winning teams at Smith's Lawn, receiving the Coronation Cup from HRH Prince Charles after he led Australia to victory on Cartier International Day 2005.
Gilmore will work alongside assistant polo manager Emma Leiva and polo secretary Tara Smith. He succeeds Oliver Ellis who resigned from Guards Polo Club earlier this year after ten years in the role.
