Tue 15th May 2012British players to compete in Germany’s Julius Baer Beach Polo World Cup Sylt's fifth annual beach polo tournament takes place next weekend
JAMIE MORRISON AND Tim Ward will be taking part in the fifth annual Julius Baer Beach Polo World Cup next weekend, 26-27 May, where more than 10,000 spectators are expected to turn out. Six international teams will contest the title, held on the island of Sylt, situated off the north-west coast of Germany.
As well as Morrison and Ward, Argentine Gaston Maiquez, Germany’s Thomas and Christopher Winter and 16-year old Lukas Sdrenka will be taking part in the beach polo tournament. The six teams taking part – Switzerland, France, Argentina, Germany and England, who are fielding two teams – will represent one of the six main sponsors.
On the Saturday, round-robin matches will be played over two chukkas of five minutes each and, on Sunday, three matches will be played – including the final – each consisting of four chukkas.
