Thu 30th Apr 2026USPA Announce New Handicaps Post Gauntlet of Polo Some celebrations and some surprises after an exciting US season
Unsurprisingly, first on the list is the talented Lorenzo Chavanne who swept the board of the US season winning The USPA Gold Cup and The U.S. Open Polo Championship with his team Pilot. Furthermore, he was named Most Valuable Player in both Finals and earned all four Best Playing Pony accolades for the Finals. As if that wasn’t enough, he also won Best Pony of the Year and Best String of the Year. To put the cherry on top of a wildly successful season, Chavanne sees his handicap raised from 7 to 9, an incredible achievement which is a testament to the hard work and talent he has shown in 2026 so far. Bring on the UK season when he joins Balanz Capital/ La Hechicera to play The Cartier Queen’s Cup and The British Open for the Cowdray Gold Cup.
Other notable raises include C.V Whitney Cup winner Facundo Llosa, going from 7 to 8 and Mackenzie Weisz, also part of the winning Pilot side, going from 6 to 7. Santi Torres moves up to 6 while Tim Dutta moves up to 5 after a stellar season with The Dutta Corp. Well deserved raises also went to Chip Campbell and KC Krueger, both moving from 1 to 1½. KC Krueger in particular was a shoe in for a raise after a seriously impressive performance saw her BTA team defeat La Dolfina Tamera to get their spot in The U.S. Open Polo Championship Final. To complete the raises Lucio Fernández Ocampo has gone from 5 to 7 and Felipe Miguens Casado moves up to 6 from 5.
Causing much discussion, Adolfo Cambiaso has been lowered from 10 to 9, as has Park Place’s Hilario Ulloa. Francisco Elizalde has moved from 9 to 8 while Coca Cola’s Julian de Lusarreta has gone down to 6 from 7. In the team sponsor section we see La Fe’s Louis Devaleix and La Dolfina Tamera’s Alejandro Poma moved down from 2 to 1½.
All these changes will have an interesting effect on next year’s line ups and could create some seriously competitive teams. Watch this space.
