On Thursday afternoon (7 September), four international polo teams were introduced to the local and international press on the terrace of the JW Marriott Absheron in Baku in anticipation of the 5th CBC Sport Arena Polo World Cup that begins tonight at 6pm. Bahruz Nabijev of the Equestrian Federation of Azerbaijan Republic (ARAF), organises this international arena polo tournament together with Reto Gaudenzi of World Polo and his team. The 5th CBC Sport Arena Polo World Cup Azerbaijan 2017 will be played over three days from Friday 8 September to Sunday 10 September at the Elite Horse & Polo Club in Baku. The tournament is played with a 10-12 goal handicap and each participating team consists of three players and two substitutes. The tournament will feature Team Improtex Motors/Grand Champions Polo Club (Palm Beach, USA), Team CBC Sport/Elite Horse & Polo Club (Baku, Azerbaijan), Team Pasha Private Banking/Monte-Carlo Polo Team (Monte-Carlo, Monaco) and the Team Azersun/Evviva Polo Club (St. Moritz, Switzerland). Last year, Gaudenzi launched the unique ‘Baku Moritz Polo Night’, where he brought together two outstanding polo locations for the first time: Baku and his birthplace St. Moritz in Switzerland. In 2016, the legendary Hotel Badrutt’s Palace from St. Moritz was in charge of the VIP catering together with the local caterer from Elite Horse & Polo Club. This year, the ‘Baku Moritz Polo Night’ is again the highlight of the social programme and will be held on Saturday 9 September. The local CBC Sport team will take on Improtex Motors (USA) in the first game, which starts at 6pm local time. The second game will be played between Pasha Private Banking (Monaco) and Azersun (Switzerland).
