Tue 16th Jun 2026The Beaufort International England Triumphant over New Zealand at The Golden Jubilee
The sun shone down on a huge crowd gathered at Beaufort Polo Club on Saturday 13th June as England took on New Zealand for The Golden Jubilee as part of the Beaufort International, formerly known as The Gloucestershire Festival of Polo. Two star-studded line ups faced off in an exciting match which saw New Zealand take an early lead in what looked to be a repeat of their 2024 win over England. JP Clarkin, who played for the first time for his country in 1997, led the New Zealand side, lending his experience and cool head as well as powerful hit to the side in black. He was joined by Jimmy Wood, Lachie Appleby and George Cronin.
For England, it was Ollie Cudmore who captained the side, with an international career including five Coronation Cup appearances. He was joined by Ed Banner Eve, fresh from a win against South Africa at Polo in the Park, Toby Bradshaw and Jack Aldridge in for Jake Coventry who was preparing for his run out in the Final of The Cartier Queen’s Cup on Sunday with Aureus.
While New Zealand set the tone early, England fought back with two quick goals which swung the momentum in their favour. After this, they dominated throughout the match. A strong, four man line up gave New Zealand little room to make attacking advances and England pushed the score difference to one and a half goals going into the fifth and final chukka. A few mistakes and missed opportunities from New Zealand, and Cudmore was quick to scoop up any loose balls, which allowed England to continue to dominate in the last chukka with the final scoreline ending 7-4 ½ and England raising The Golden Jubilee Trophy high.
The Golden Jubilee Teams:
England (14): Ollie Cudmore (5), Jack Aldridge (2), Toby Bradshaw (2) & Ed Banner-Eve (5)
New Zealand (13): JP Clarkin (6), Jimmy Wood (4), Lachie Appleby (2) & George Cronin (1)
