Mon 26th Feb 2024Valiente Are Back!C.V. Whitney Cup Final
Valiente, the reigning champions, secured their second consecutive C.V. Whitney Cup title by defeating La Dolfina with a 12-10 score in the Final held on Sunday 25 February, at the National Polo Center in Wellington, Florida. The ongoing Gauntlet of Polo, which began in 2019, features eight teams up to 22 goals, divided into four leagues – the league continues with The USPA Gold Cup. This Final held a special familial significance as Adolfo Cambiaso, Valiente's key player, emerged victorious over his son Poroto, who is part of La Dolfina, the Cambiaso organisation, in their inaugural high goal season in the United States. In a closely contested match where Jesse Bray substituted for Peke González, Valiente maintained their lead throughout the six chukkas, with Bob Jornayvaz and his team staying ahead, although La Dolfina remained in close pursuit. Starting the last chukka with a slim 9-8 lead, Valiente showcased an impressive performance by Paco de Narvaez Jr., contributing seven goals. The last chukka witnessed intense competition, with La Dolfina briefly taking a 10-9 lead. However, Valiente quickly responded, and with 2.53 minutes left in regulation time, Adolfo Cambiaso leveled the score at 10-10. The top scorer of the day, Paco de Narvaez Jr., converted a crucial penalty, giving Valiente an 11-10 lead. Ultimately, Adolfo Cambiaso secured the win in the final seconds, securing Valiente's second consecutive C.V. Whitney Cup. Adolfo Cambiaso was named Most Valuable Player and Dolfina Jai, played by Adolfo Cambiaso, was chosen as the Best Playing Pony. The C.V.
