Wed 12th Aug 2015Inaugural Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation Day Guards Polo Club will host the event on Thursday 13 August
The Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation (NSIF) is hosting its first event at Guards Polo Club on Thursday 13 August. On-the-field action will be the Semi Finals of The Duke of Wellington Trophy ahead of Saturday’s Final.
Before NSIF guests enjoy the game, an auction will take place in the Clubhouse, raising much needed funds for the charity, which will include many money-cannot-buy lots. Guests will be bidding for a golf trip for four at St George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, Kent, a day in the Mosimann Club kitchen with dinner for four, a luxury, eight-day trip to Hong Kong and Macau, a romantic trip for two to Florence, plus a fun, learn-to-play day at the Guards Polo Academy at Coworth Park.
Money raised will go to NSIF’s efforts to support the work of Professor Geoffrey Raisman and his team at the UCL Institute of Neurology, whose research on successfully repairing spinal injury was the focus of a recent BBC Panorama programme. The charity also supports Dr Pawel Tabakow and his team in Poland who are pioneering the clinical implementation of Professor Raisman’s research.
The Duke of Wellington Semi Finals will be played between Black Eagles and Beaufort Black Hounds in the first game of the afternoon, followed by Emlor against Four Quarters Black. There have been 13 teams battling against one another since 30 July for the 12 goal title. The tournament is also part of the newly formed Autumn Victor Ludorum Series and one lucky player will receive The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player Award in the Final on Saturday 15 August.
