Mon 22nd Jun 2015Clarita victorious in Bentley Royal Windsor Cup Mathias' Team beat Bridge House of Twyford
Chris Mathias has won The Bentley Royal Windsor Cup for the second time with his team Clarita. Following on from victory in 2012, Clarita stormed home to win 16-7 against Bridge House of Twyford on 21 Juneat Guards Polo Club.
Though the teams at first appeared well-matched, with a half-time score of 8-6, the skill of Clarita’s Chris Mackenzie and George Meyrick soon came to the fore, the former of whom won Most Valuable Player for his excellent performance. Their teamwork down the pitch was exemplary, and a well-played game with some excellent hits, especially in the second half, left the hitherto undefeated Bridge House of Twyford struggling to keep up the pace. When he went to receive his prize from Her Majesty The Queen, Chris Mackenzie took with him his three grooms, Nico, Derek and Paul, to introduce them.
The Subsidiary Final for the Mountbatten Cup was a rather different game, with Mad Dogs and Four Quarters Orange coming head to head again to repeat their 2014 face-off in the Final. However, a pair of well-matched teams resulted in a 2-1 victory for Mad Dogs, who won with a highly unusual low score at this level.
The day concluded with a carriage driving display, after HM The Queen, and Lady Tatiana Mountbatten, in place of the Marchioness of Milford Haven, presented the prizes.
