The Gloucestershire Festival Polo begins tomorrow

The Gigaset International will be England vs Ireland

On Saturday 13 June Beaufort Polo Club will kick off The Gloucestershire Festival Polo with The Gigaset International between 17 goal teams from England and Ireland. The England line-up of Mark Tomlinson (6), Matt Perry (5), Ralph Richardson (1) and Pete Webb (5) will play an Irish side of Max Hutchinson (3), Mikey Henderson (4), Richard the Earl of Tyrone (6) and Seb Dawnay (4). Later in the afternoon England Ladies will play Rest of the World Ladies. On Sunday the festivities of polo continue with The Gigaset Charity Polo Cup with Royal Salute playing Piaget followed by The Javier Novillo Astrada U15 Cup (in memory of Javier Novillo Astrada, who tragically lost his fight against a brain tumour in 2014 at just 37-years-old). Both the Princes are tipped to be playing in the charity cup and the list of surnames in The Javier Novillo Astrada U15 Cup would normally be found in a high goal score-sheet. At the young age of 19, Javier, like many of the world’s top polo players made the journey over to England for the summer months, and the fields here at Beaufort Polo Club were where he spent his first UK season.

The Javier Novillo Astrada U15 Cup, will see four teams competing for the top prize, and will feature some of the world’s greatest hopes of polo’s future. The four teams include RJ Polo (Lucas Monteverde, Tamara Gibbons, Henry Frizby and Cruz Heguy), Black Hound (George Deverell, Luke Wiles, Santiago Lllavallol and Millie Hine), Zonkey Polo (Simon Novillo Astrada, Manuel Novillo Astrada, Jaz Stanhope-White and Marcus Cork) and SATS (Ned Hine, Charlie Townsend, Mia Novillo Astrada and Freddie Jodrell).

Aside from picnics, presentation of sponsors and prizes the weekend will also include a shopping village with 53 trade stands. The Country Fair will have something for everyone from cakes to cashmere and jewellery to gin. The Household Cavalry Foundation, Irish Guards Charitable Funds, England and Wales Mountain Rescue and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity will all be benefiting from the weekend of polo at Beaufort.

Polo Times and sister publication The Polo Magazine will be awarding prizes for The Polo Times Best Playing Pony Award for women’s game and The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player. The two teams in the Final of The Javier Novillo Astrada U15 Cup will also receives prizes from Polo Times.
