Tue 2nd Jun 2015SUPA National University Championships this weekendUniversities from all over the UK descend upon Dallas Burston Polo Club
Over 250 university students will be taking part in this summer’s SUPA Championships at Dallas Burston Polo Club. This year, Scotland will be particularly well represented by Aberdeen, St. Andrews, Edinburgh and Stirling, many of whom were missing from the arena tournament held earlier this year at Rugby Polo Club. The tournament is split into 10 different sections from Beginners through to an Open section. This year there will only be Exeter and UWE competing for the Open title, whilst Beginner 1 and 2 have 16 teams in each section. Intermediate 1 and 2 sections are also looking a little light on the ground with only 8 teams in total between them. The tournament is due to start on the morning of Friday 6 June and continue through until the Finals on Sunday. Also missing from the list of universities are Oxford and Cambridge, as their Jack Wills Varsity Match will be on Sunday at Guards Polo Club. The festivities won’t be restricted to the pitch. The Association of Polo Schools and Pony Hirers are holding drinks in the DBPC Clubhouse on Friday from 6pm onwards for all pony providers and university polo club Captains. On Saturday evening the players will be dressing up in true SUPA tradition for a party in the Clubhouse. Both Polo Times Club Liaison and News Manager Lucy Wilson and Junior Editor Wiggy Bamforth will be on hand to offer Polo Times and The Polo Magazine subscriptions and to report on the tournament in the forthcoming July issue of Polo Times. A range of Polo Times merchandise will also be on sale, including limited edition Polo Times 20th Anniversary gilets and sweatshirts. Look out for the Polo Times stand on Saturday and Sunday.
