Mon 1st Jun 2015Opening of La Martina flagship store in Jermyn StreetThe archetypal brand finally opens the doors of its long-awaited London store
On Thursday 28 May, La Martina hosted a dazzling cocktail party to celebrate the launch of their flagship store, located on Jermyn Street just minutes away from Buckingham Palace. The brand, founded in 1985, is today the go-to supplier of quality polo equipment and luxury clothing, though it is of course their new high-tech line of boots and kneepads that will be attracting the most attention. Their philosophy is to blend traditional British quality with the history of polo itself – from cosy clubhouses to traditional Argentine heritage. VIPs included representatives of La Martina’s Global partners, Guards Polo Club, with CEO Neil Hobday, the Manager for North European Maserati, Peter Denton, the President of the Federation of International Polo, Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers, HPA Chairman Brigadier John Wright and patrons and players from all over the world. Also spotted at the event were The Marchioness of Milford Haven, the bloggers Xenia Tchoumitcheva and Tamara Kalinic, singer and actor Jules Knight and of course La Martina's Brand Ambassadors: Malcolm Borwick, the Marquess of Blandford, George Spencer Churchill, Eduardo Novillo Astrada who joined Lucy Soanes in a horse parade held on Jermyn Street, delighting the crowds with polo ponies following a Maserati. Guests were invited in for a long-awaited look at the new premises, hitherto only seen by during Guards Polo Club's exclusive preview. The chauffeur driven Maserati Quattroportes ensured the guests were amply able to enjoy Royal Salute whisky and Argentinean canapes supplied by Gaucho restaurant. La Martina has long since been an avid supporter of players in the UK, in its role as official supplier of the English polo teams at University of Oxford and Eton. This London store is the latest in a long and worldwide line of more than 70 exclusive stores, covering North, Central and South America, Europe, Middle East and South East Asia.
