Tue 2nd Dec 2014Grand Champions Polo Club plays host to Mexico and the 20 goal North America Cup A busy weekend for the Florida Polo Club as the USA team won against Mexico
On Saturday 29 November a 15 goal team line-up of Marc Ganzi, Wes Finlayson, Nic Roldan and Mason Wroe for USA scored and won against a 15 goal team from Mexico and Team USPA playing off 14 goals. Alejandro Gonzalez, Mariano Gracida, Julio Gracida and Roberto Gonzalez playing for Mexico had a win against Team USPA (Jared Sheldon, Jesse Bray, Felipe Viana and Jesse Bray) with a score of 5 – 2, but lost to the USA by just ½ a goal with a final score of 3 – 2 ½ . It was another close call for Team USPA against USA as they lost by ½ a goal with a final score of 2 – 1 ½ . The American 8 goaler Nic Roldan scored the total of 5 goals for the USA team and was named Most Valuable Player for his efforts. Vegas, Halo Polo’s dark bay, was awarded the Best Playing Pony award.
The following day saw the finals of the 20 goal North American Cup with Casablanca taking on Palm Beach Polo Club consisting of Glenn Straub, Brandon Phillips, Jeff Hall and Tommy Biddle in the Final. Palm Beach Polo Club beat Grand Champions Polo Club on Friday 28 November to make the final with a score of 11 – 8 and Casablanca beat Flight Options with a close score of 11 – 9 to become their opposition. Grant Ganzi, Kris Kampsen, Nic Roldan and Jeff Blake for Casablanca took the game into overtime before Kampsen scored the winning goal to make the score 10 – 9. Despite only scoring once for his team Nic Roldan won Most Valuable player for the second time that weekend. Jeff Hall’s chestnut mare, Texas Two Step, won Best Playing Pony.
