Mon 16th Jun 2014Zacara retain Cartier Queen’s Cup title Facundo Pieres guides Zacara to another fantastic win
ZACARA WON THE Cartier Queen’s Cup for the second straight year yesterday at Guards Polo Club.
Lyndon Lea’s powerful side, which featured Facundo Pieres, Gonzalo Deltour and British four-goaler Matt Perry, defeated Edouard Carmignac’s Talandracas 10-7 in the final, to finish the tournament unbeaten.
The defending champions faced tough competition from Talandracas’s Polito Pieres, Santiago Stirling and Juan Martin Nero, but a superb performance by Facundo Pieres, well backed up by his teammates, gave Zacara a 5-2 lead by half-time, which they stretched to 7-2 in the fourth chukka.
Carmignac’s team came powering back, and were still within reach as the final chukka got underway with the score standing a 9-7. But Facundo Pieres eighth goalof the match sealed the deal, and it was Lyndon Lea who received the Queen’sCup from HM The Queen.
Facundo Pieres also took individual honours, being named most valuable player and taking home the best playing pony prize for Galactica.
