ENGLAND LIFTED THE St. Regis International Cup at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Saturday, after beating South America 11.5-8 in the first Test Match of the English season.
Captained by Luke Tomlinson, and also featuring national team stalwarts James Beim and Mark Tomlinson, and Max Charlton, England began the match with a half-goal advantage on handicap over the 27-goal South America side.
The visiting team of Eduardo and Alejandro Novillo Astrada, Guy Gibrat and Nacho Figueras led after the first chukka, but England soon edged their way in front, hanging on to the lead to win the match and successfully avenge their defeat to South America in last year’s Test Match.
It was an especially successful day for seven-goaler James Beim, who took home the most valuable player prize and the Polo Times best playing pony prize for Yacht.
