ALEGRIA CLAIMED THE Maserati US Open title yesterday, after defeating Valiente 11-10 in overtime. Julian Mannix's team, which also featured Mariano Aguerre, Hilario Ulloa and Clemente Zavaleta, went into the final as underdogs, but took the title after a overtime penalty goal by Ulloa. Bob Jornayvaz's Valiente side, which won the 26-goal C.V. Whitney Cup and USPA Gold Cup earlier this year, were forced to settle for a repeat of last year's US Open final, in which they were beaten by Zacara. Valiente were without ten-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso, who had had to leave the field during the semi-finals with a hamstring injury. He was replaced by ten-goaler Juan Martin Nero, who joined Jornayvaz, Santi Torres and Sapo Caset. Zavaleta was named most valuable player, while Ulloa's Mia received the best playing pony prize.
