Mon 3rd Mar 2014Cambiaso guides Valiente to C.V. Whitney Cup victory The first 26-goal tournament of the US season concludes with victory for Valiente
VALIENTE WON THE C.V. Whitney Cup on Sunday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
The team of Adolfo Cambiaso, Santi Torres, Sapo Caset and patron Bob Jornayvaz held their own against Steve Van Andel’s Orchard Hill to record a 12-8 win and take the first 26-goal title of the US season.
Despite doubts as to whether Cambiaso would be fit to play the final after suffering an elbow injury in Valiente’s semi-final match against Alegria on Wednesday, the ten-goaler put in an inspired performance to guide his team to victory. Torres was named most valuable player.
The second tournament of the 26-goal US Triple Crown, the USPA Gold Cup, will get underway on Friday 7 March. Eight teams will take part, and it is due to conclude on Sunday 23 March.
