Mon 3rd Feb 2014Cartier retains title in St Moritz Jonathan Munro Ford leads his team to a second consecutive St Moritz title
CARTIER WAS CROWNED winner of the 30th St Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow yesterday. The team, led by Jonathan Munro Ford, and featuring Max Charlton, Chris Hyde and Hissam Ali Hyder, defeated Ralph Lauren 2-1 to claim their second consecutive St Moritz title.
Having remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, and defeating the Ralph Lauren team of Michael Bickford, Jamie Morrison, Nacho Figueras and Ruki Baillieu 5-3 the previous day, Cartier were unable to establish control over their rivals for much of the final, with no goals scored until the third chukka. After a fierce five-chukka battle, the match was forced into extra time, with Hyder scoring the winner for Cartier, and earning himself the most valuable player prize.
The BMW team of Richard Davis, Jonny Good, Tarquin Southwell and JP Clarkin finished the tournament in third place after defeating Deutsche Bank – Karan Thapar, Ryan Pemble, Oli Hipwood and Glen Gilmore – 5-4 in the subsidiary final.
