Mon 20th Jan 2014England wins Snow Polo World Cup A superb performance against hosts and reigning champions Hong Kong China earns England the title
England were crowned winners of the FIP Snow Polo World Cup at the Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club in Tianjin, China.
The team of Max Routledge, Jack Richardson and captain Max Charlton overcame defending champions and hosts Hong Kong China in today’s final, securing a 6-5 win, and England’s first Snow Polo World Cup victory.
Despite the home team of Guillermo Terrera, Facundo Fernandez Llorente and John Fisher putting the first goal on the scoreboard, it was the young England side who kept their noses in front throughout the match, keeping eight-goaler Terrera well contained, and proving formidable in defence. Five-goaler Richardson was named most valuable player of the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Chile beat Brazil in a tense penalty shootout to take third place.
