The Open de France BARNES is heading into its final week, with the four Semi Finalists decided after a dramatic round of Quarter Finals featuring three one goal matches and two extra chukka encounters.
Akasha were first through after edging Talandracas 12-11 in overtime. The teams were tied 9-9 heading into the final chukka before Talandracas recovered from two goals down to force extra time, where Tommy Beresford converted a 60 yard penalty for the golden goal, his eighth of the match.
Jolly Roger then ended Clinova’s unbeaten run with an 8-7 victory, inspired by Manuel Plaza de Ayala, who scored seven of their eight goals. Kazak also required extra time to overcome Essso 7-6. After a scoreless first extra chukka, the goals were doubled in width for the second and Pedro Chavanne struck the winner.
The final place went to defending champions Octogone, who recovered from an 8-5 deficit against Sainte-Mesme. Hazel Jackson began the fightback before Alexis Morange put Octogone ahead and Pelón Stirling sealed a 10-8 victory with a superb individual goal. Octogone will now face Akasha on Thursday 17 September, after Jolly Roger take on Kazak.
Meanwhile, the Open de France Féminin begins Tuesday 15 September, with seven teams of up to 16 goals competing for the title. The field includes Hazel Jackson, Milly Hine, Cata Lavinia, Milagros Sanchez, Lia Salvo, Luisa del Carril and the three Venot sisters, while defending champions Augustinus Baeder return looking to retain their 2025 title.
The Ladies Semi Finals will be played on Friday 18 September, with both the Ladies and Open de France BARNES Finals taking place on Sunday 20 September.
