First losses for Salkeld and Dubai
There has been some upset during the Cowdray Park Gold Cup league matches this week with both Salkeld and Dubai – who were previously unbeaten – losing their last league games.
Yesterday, Dubai lost to Cortium, 9-7, while on Tuesday, Nick Clarke’s Salkeld lost to Jerome Wirth’s Enigma, 11-2. This means that Salkeld are now tied with Zacara at the top of League D. El Remanso – who are also part of the same league and have so far won two games and lost one – play their last game today. Should they win, they will join Zacara and Salkeld at the top of the league.
This may mean that the new penalty shootout rules – used for the first time last month to decide the Prince of Wales Trophy contenders – could be used again to decide the Gold Cup quarter-finalists.
Following the quarter-finals on Saturday (7 July), Ham Polo Club are holding a 22-goal match of their own – the highest ever to be played at the club. Dubai’s Adolfo Cambiaso and seven-goaler Gaston Laulhe will play in the high-goal exhibition match, which forms part of the Fifth Chukka Access Bank Day. A 12-goal match will also be played.
Tickets cost £5 per person and are selling fast. Get yours at www.hampoloclub.com or buy one on the gate on the day.
