Mon 19th Aug 2024Sotogrande Terralpa Silver CupsFinal victories for Dubai, Amanara & Calatagan
On Friday 16 August, Amanara claimed The Medium Handicap Terralpa Silver Cup with a commanding 13-6 victory over John Smith at Ayala Sede Los Pinos in Sotogrande. This win was all the sweeter for Amanara, who lost to John Smith in the 2023 Silver Cup Final. The match saw Amanara take control early, leading by two goals at half-time. From the fourth chukka onward, Amanara dominated, steadily increasing their lead with strong play across the board. The team executed a near-flawless performance, effectively neutralising their opponents and showcasing their skill in every aspect of the game. On Saturday 17 August, Dubai secured The High Handicap Terralpa Silver Cup by defeating MB Polo 11-9 at Ayala Sede Los Pinos in Sotogrande. This victory marks Dubai's second win of this trophy, having also claimed it in 2022. The match, part of The 53rd Andalusia International Polo Tournament, was closely contested, particularly in the first half. MB Polo held a 5-4 lead after a tight and defensive second and third chukka. However, Dubai's Jeta Castagnola took charge in the fourth chukka, leading his team with several key goals to turn the match around. Dubai outscored MB Polo 4-1 in the fourth chukka creating a two goal lead that proved insurmountable. This title is particularly significant for Estanislao Darritchon, who won his first trophy in Sotogrande in his debut season. For Juan Martín Nero, the win was a triumphant return to Sotogrande, where he last won in 2019, also alongside Castagnola. On the same day in the Low Handicap Final, Calatagan avenged their earlier loss in The Bronze Cup, defeating 1896 Polo 9-7.
