Mon 20th Nov 2023Argentine Open Weekend Results Wins for La Hache La Roca & La Dolfina Saudi
The 130th Argentine Open resumed on Saturday 18 November, with two matches between La Hache and La Dolfina organisations: La Hache La Roca vs La Hache Cria & Polo and La Dolfina Saudi vs Cria La Dolfina. Sapo Caset and Polito Ulloa secured a 2-1 lead for La Hache La Roca in the first chukka, while Joaquin Pittaluga scored La Hache Cría & Polo’s lone goal through a 30-yard penalty. The initial chukkas were closely contested. La Hache La Roca dominated the third chukka, establishing a 10-3 lead, and extended it to 14-4 by halftime. Polito Pieres of La Hache La Roca emerged as the standout player, finishing as the top scorer with eight goals. In the second half, La Hache La Roca maintained control, overpowering La Hache Cría & Polo, who struggled but relied on Joaquín Pittaluga. By the sixth chukka, La Hache La Roca held a substantial 19-9 lead. Notably, Manuel Elizalde made his Open debut, substituting for his injured brother, Fran, in the eighth chukka. In the final chukka, La Hache La Roca sealed the deal with three more goals, securing a 23-13 victory. Before the second match of the day, a heartfelt homage was paid to the iconic Dolfina Cuartetera, a renowned mare in Argentine polo. Dolfina Cuartetera, in partnership with Adolfo Cambiaso, formed an unparalleled duo, clinching The Triple Crown three times and securing the Argentine Open seven times. The mare, born in February 2001, received the Lady Susan Townley award on three occasions before her passing in May 2022. Numerous clones of Dolfina Cuartetera, continuing her legacy, have earned various accolades. As part of the tribute, the eight players were mounted on several of these distinguished clones. The match between La Dolfina and Cria La Dolfina saw defending champions, La Dolfina take control from the outset and by half-time they had secured a 7-2 lead. In the second half, La Dolfina Saudi played with a relaxed confidence, as if they were in their own domain. They faced little difficulty in dominating their opponents, and although the match saw a modest goal count – averaging two per chukka – it was more than enough to maintain their lead. The outcome was essentially determined before the final chukka, with Poroto Cambiaso sealing the deal for a conclusive 13-4 victory.
