Wed 27th Sep 2023130th Hurlingham Open Underway Opening wins for La Dolfina Saudi & Ellerstina
Yesterday, Tuesday 26 September, the 2023 Argentine Triple Crown got underway. In a break from tradition, this year’s Triple Crown begins with The Hurlingham Open rather than the usual Tortugas Open in a move that it is hoped will preserve the grounds at the AAP headquarters in Pilar which hosts many tournaments throughout the season. The 130th Hurlingham Open sees eight teams competing in single elimination format, therefore beginning with the Quarter Finals; the winners will advance to the semi Finals while the losers will play for the Subsidiary Drysdale Cup. The opening rounds are being played at the AAP headquarters in Pilar, the Semi Finals will be played in Palermo and the Final will be played at the Hurlingham Club. Yesterday’s opening match saw La Dolfina Saudi defeat La Irenita Clinova with a resounding score of 22-5, which means La Dolfina Saudi will progress straight to the Semi Finals. The second match of the day saw Ellerstina secure a 16-12 win against Cria La Dolfina, which also puts them into the Semi Final. The action continues today with La Natividad vs La Hache Cria & Polo as well as La Hache Polo Team vs La Ensenada. The Semi Finals are scheduled for Saturday 30 September, followed by the Final on Saturday 7 October. 2023 Argentine Triple Crown Dates: 130th Hurlingham Open: 26 September – 7 October 83rd Tortugas Open: 10 – 28 October 130th Argentine Open: 31 October – 2 December 2023 Argentine Triple Crown Teams: La Dolfina Saudi (40): Adolfo Cambiaso (10), David ‘Pelon’ Stirling (10), Poroto Cambiaso (10) & Juan Martín Nero (10) Ellerstina (35): Nico Pieres (9), Gonzalito Pieres (9), Bautista Bayugar (8) & Nachi du Plessis (9) Cría La Dolfina (35): Guillermo Terrera (9), Tomás Panelo (9), Diego Cavanagh (8) & Alejo Taranco (9) La Irenita Clinova (32): Facundo Fernández Llorente (8), Tomás Fernández Llorente Jr. (8), Matías Torres Zavaleta (8) & Isidro Strada (8) La Hache Cria & Polo (31): Juan Ruiz Guiñazú (8), Carlos María Ulloa (7), Facundo Sola (8) & Joaquín Pittaluga (8) La Ensenada (35): Juan Britos (9), Alfredo Bigatti (9), Juan Martín Zubía (9) & Jerónimo del Carril (8) La Hache (36): Polito Pieres (9), Hilario Ulloa (9), Sapo Caset (9) & Francisco Elizalde (9) La Natividad (39): Camilo ‘Jeta’ Castagnola (10), Facundo Pieres (9), Barto Castagnola (10) & Pablo Mac Donough (10) Photograph: The 130th Hurlingham Open kicked off yesterday with a win for La Dolfina Saudi.
