Thu 11th Aug 2022Talacrest Prince of Wales’s Championship Cup Final SetBP Polo vs Park Place this Sunday
Yesterday, Wednesday 10 August, saw the Semi Finals of the 2022 Talacrest Prince of Wales’s Championship Cup at Guards Polo Club. The first match of the day was between the only undefeated team of the tournament, Monterosso, against BP Polo. BP Polo received a two goal handicap advantage which they maintained in a defensive opening chukka, but by half-time Monterosso had pulled ahead to take a 6-4 lead. After the break, BP Polo came out on the attack and entering the final chukka the scoreboard was tied at 9-9, but BP Polo continued to fight and held off a last-minute attack from Monterosso to take the win 11-10 and their place in Sunday’s Final. The second match of the day was a rematch of their last group game, Park Place and Vikings met again to decide the second finalist and, just like their first meeting, the two teams were close into the final chukka. Hilario Ulloa had an excellent performance, scoring all six goals for Park Place in the first half, which meant they trailed by one goal going into half-time, 7-6. Ulloa once again led the charge after the break, who combined with Juan Britos drove Park Place into the lead, however Vikings fought back to tie the score after a field goal from Juan Martin Zubia and Strada’s fifth penalty goal. Cavanagh quickly struck for Vikings to give them the lead once more, but a run from Ulloa, which was left in front of goal, was flicked through by Sam Wisbey to tie this tense game once again. With the game now on the line, Santos Merlos broke to goal and received a Penalty 1 which delivered the game-winning goal for Park Place, sending them into Sunday’s Final, 12-11, and giving the team the chance to defend their title.
