Wed 19th Jan 2022Joe Barry Memorial FinalOver-time success for Patagones
After rain delayed the original Final date, The Joe Barry Memorial was played on Tuesday 18 January at International Polo Club Palm Beach’s Isla Carroll West field, with Beverly Polo vs Patagones; both teams were no strangers to one another having played against each other at all levels over the years, which only added to the competition as each side knew their oppositions’ playing style and horses. The first half was marred with penalties and by half-time Patagones were ahead, 5-2. The second half saw goals aplenty for both sides, despite a three vs four player advantage while Patagones’ Joaquin Avendano waited in the sin bin after his second yellow card for dangerous riding, Beverly Polo weren’t able to capitalise on the advantage and the match, tied at 10-10, was pushed into over-time. Avendano redeemed his earlier misdemeanours by sending a backshot down to Tomás García del Río who took the ball and scored the winning goal, 11-10! A full report will be included in the February issue of Polo Times. Photograph: Smiles all round for Patagones!
