Sun 25th Apr 2021 Francisco Dorignac 1938 – 2021 Former AAP President & renowned polo player On Saturday 24 April, the polo community was shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Francisco Dorignac following a heart attack at his home at the age of 82-years-old. Frankie, as he was known, was both a renowned player and pillar of the polo community in Argentina. He achieved a 10 goal handicap in 1963 and won The Argentine Open three times (1971, 1973 and 1982), winning The Triple Crown in 1973 with Santa Ana, as well as numerous Hurlingham and Tortugas Opens, and in 1975 alongside Gastón Dorignac, Gonzalo Tanoira, Horacio Heguy, Alberto Pedro Heguy, Juan Carlitos Harriott, Alfredo Harriott and Daniel González, Frankie played the first 80 goal match at Palermo to commemorate the first polo match played in Argentina. Following on from his successful polo career, Frankie was the President of the Tortugas Country Club for over 40 years and President of the Argentine Polo Association (AAP) for three terms (1987-1991, 2005-2009 and 2013-2017). Throughout his career Frankie received several awards, illustrating his success both on and off the field, receiving the Olimpia de Plata as the best polo player of the year in 1971, 1973 and 1982, as well as the Delfo Cabrera Award, presented by the Sports Committee of the Senate of Argentina, in 2005.
