Park Place Secure Two Semi Final Spots
Both organisation’s teams are in The King Power Gold Cup Semi Finals
Yesterday, Wednesday 15 July, saw the last of the league matches for The King Power Gold Cup for The British Open at Cowdray Park Polo Club.
The first match of the day saw Park Place Vaara defeat Monterosso 13-8, with Juan Britos scoring an impressive seven goals. All four Park Place Vaara teams made their mark on the match, with each player scoring at least two goals each and Hilario Ulloa really utilised his three teammates, assisting goal after goal with lovely passes upfield; combined with a perfect four for four penalty conversion, Park Place Vaara capitalised on their advantages.
The second match of the day was between Les Lions/Great Oaks and Thai Polo NW. It was the first King Power Gold Cup match for Les Lions/Great Oak’s Camilo ‘Jeta’ Castagnola, who had been side-lined due to an injury and had until now been replaced by Alejandro Muzzio, but stagefright didn’t seem to affect him and Jeta scored three goals for his team. Les Lions/Great Oak’s organised defence meant that Thai Polo NW had a limited ability to score and ultimately sealed Les Lion/Great Oak’s 10-5 victory.
This meant that Les Lions/Great Oaks, Park Place and Park Place Vaara all faced each other in a shoot-out to determine the two teams who would directly proceed to the Semi Finals, without participating in the Quarter Finals. A representative player from each team took their turn to take five shots from the 60 yard line; Park Place’s Gonzalito Pieres and Park Place Vaara’s Hilario Ulloa converted four of their five attempts, while Les Lions/Great Oaks’ Camilo Castagnola converted three of his five attempts, pushing his team into the Quarter Finals in a rematch against Thai Polo NW.
These results mean that the Quarter Final matches on Saturday 18 July will see Thai NW vs Les Lions/ Great Oaks (12pm) and Next Generation vs Scone (3pm), with the two winners facing Park Place in the Semi Finals next week.
