Double Win for Park Place

Day 5 of King Power Gold Cup

Yesterday, Thursday 9 July, was an extremely successful day for the Park Place organisation, with not one, but two victories against tough opponents.
The first match of the day saw Park Place Vaara face the undefeated Les Lions/Great Oaks. Santiago Laborde opened the scoring as Les Lions/Great Oaks began the match using their tried and tested tactic of dominant offense, which so far had proven successful for them. However, Park Place Vaara had been doing their homework and quickly responded with three goals of their own, which meant the opening chukka ended 3-2 in favour of Park Place Vaara. Park Place continued to dominate, with young, grass roots players Will Harper and Zac Beim working effectively together. The last two chukkas sealed the verdict, as a flurry of penalties against Les Lions/Great Oak combined with three goals from Ulloa in the final chukka, resulted in an impressive 16-7 win for Park Place Vaara.
The second match of the day was highly anticipated as it saw Gonzalito and Facundo Pieres for Park Place versus Adolfo and Poroto Cambiaso in their Next Generation shirts. With both teams evenly matched, this Battle of the Titans came down to their defensive power, which was illustrated in half of the goals from the match scored from the penalty line. Park Place began with a one goal handicap advantage and they clung onto this throughout the match, which saw the sixth and final chukka begin with Park Place narrowly ahead by just one goal. Poroto Cambiaso came out on fire, dominated possession, stole the ball form Facundo Pieres and sent the ball flying between the goalposts to level the scores at 8-8. Adolfo Cambiaso scored to take Next Generation into the lead, with victory within their reach, however Park Place patron Andrey Borodin broke in behind Next Generation’s defence and scored to restore the tie, 9-9. As tensions mounted the whistle blew in favour of Park Place’s Borodin and teammate Facundo Pieres converted the penalty 2 to secure a 10-9 win for Park Place.
