Thu 9th Jan 2020de Grisogono Lead the Sponsor’s ChargeThe Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz
In just over a fortnight, the frozen lake in St. Moritz, Switzerland will be adorned with the finest snow polo players the world has to offer, and what’s more, this year will see a new luxury sponsor, leading the charge. Alongside long-time supporters Badrutt’s Palace, Maserati and Azerbaijan Land of Fire, Swiss jeweller extraordinaire de Grisogono will be thrust into the spotlight, sponsoring The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz powerhouse team of Zhanna Bandurko/Valery Mishchenko (0), Robert Strom (5), Max Charlton (5) & Nacho Gonzalez (6). This expert foursome will see three of Europe’s strongest arena players, with Russians Bandurko and Mishchenko at the helm. de Grisogono was founded in 1993 by Italian black diamond specialist Fawaz Gruosi and entered into a new partnership with David and Lisa Klein in 2017. The jeweller is famous for having set a new record at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels sale in Geneva in 2017, when it sold the world’s biggest ever emerald cut diamond at auction; a 161.41 carat D flawless stone incorporated into a necklace, which fetched 33.5 million Swiss francs. With such strong competition on the ice, perhaps 2020 will see de Grisogono break more records, this time on the polo field? Play in The Snow Polo World Cup gets underway on Friday 24 January, with the first match taking place on the frozen St. Moritz lake at 12pm, between Badrutt’s Palace and Azerbaijan Land of Fire. Matches will continue on Saturday and Sunday, with the Final scheduled to take place at 2.15pm on the Sunday. Admission to the lake is free, but for the extra special experience, the last few VIP tickets are still available.
