On Sunday 18 March, the high goal season resumed at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida. Once again, polo fans were treated to the Valiente line-up of polo superstars, Adolfo Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres, coming out together to take on Melissa Ganzi’s Flexjet. In the first chukka, Flexjet managed to take control of the game, clearly showing their intentions to put up a fight and make their mark. A first goal from Gonzalito Pieres, followed by a goal from Rodrigo Andrade gave Ganzi’s team a 2-1 advantage going into the second chukka. However, as the game progressed, Valiente gained their usual strength, quickly tying the game, thanks to a conversion from Gillian Johnston (substituting for Bob Jornayvaz). At half-time, Flexjet still had the advantage, 6-4, to a shocked audience, but Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres weren’t done yet. The fourth chukka saw them tie the scoreboard 6-6 and as the teams entered the fifth chukka, both sides upped the pace, pushing to take control. The sixth and final chukka saw Valiente initially ahead by one, but after a goal from Johnston and Facundo Pieres, Valiente secured the title with an 11-8 win. Nico Pieres was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award, whilst Facundo Pieres’ pony Dalma was presented with the Best Playing Pony rug.
