Fri 1st Dec 2017124th Argentine Open Finals AwaitHigh goal action-filled weekend to come
This weekend sees the highlight of not only the Argentine high goal season, but the world polo calendar. For the fifth year in a row, La Dolfina Sancor Seguros will take to the field against age-old rivals Ellerstina Johor. In the run-up to the Final, reigning champions La Dolfina secured their spot on 26 November in a close fought match against La Aguada Las Monjitas, whilst Ellerstina took to the field against Alegría the day after, beating them 15-14. Without doubt, the sixth chukka of this match was the best-played chukka yet seen in the tournament. The two teams will meet on Buenos Aires’ most famous polo pitch, Palermo, Ground 1 at 4.30pm (local time). Ellerstina is currently leading the points board with 1,350, whilst La Dolfina are following closely behind with 1,050 points. Perhaps this could be the year for Ellerstina, following four years of no silverware. For the first time in history, the Women’s Argentine Open ATMA Polo Championship Final will precede the Men’s Final. This tournament has seen the best female players from across the globe congregate in Buenos Aires, showcasing the increased popularity of women’s polo. In a twist of fate, the two teams taking to the Palermo ground tomorrow will be Ellerstina vs La Dolfina Brava. Both teams feature British favourites; Ellerstina with Hazel Jackson and Sarah Wiseman, and Nina Clarkin with La Dolfina Brava. Mía Cambiaso, the daughter of world number one Adolfo Cambiaso will play alongside world women’s number one Clarkin, with the aim of fulfilling her life-long dream; to win at Palermo. We speak to Mía in the next issue of Polo Times, so make sure you subscribe now for all the details from the Cambiaso camp. Both teams are thus far unbeaten, so the match promises to be an exciting affair. Both the men’s and women’s Argentine Open matches will be live streamed on PoloTV and we will be featuring a full report in the next issue of Polo Times.
