Mon 16th Oct 2017Argentine UpdateHurlingham's third day of play
This weekend saw the third day of play in the 124th Hurlingham Open at the AAP grounds in Pilar, Argentina. Alegría and La Aguada Las Monjitas still remain unbeaten, with La Dolfina Sancor Insurance and Ellerstina also continuing their winning streak. In the first match of Saturday’s play, the Pieres brothers, sporting their Ellerstina shirts, took the win from La Esquina Los Machitos 15-8, controlling the match from the first chukka and never giving an inch. La Dolfina’s match against Chapaleufu was a similar affair, ending with a 12-5 score in La Dolfina’s favour. Both teams came out strongly, with Chapaleufu preventing La Dolfina Sancor Insurance from getting the ball through the posts in the first chukka, but their luck wasn’t to last, as Cambiaso and his teammates took to their normal, goal-scoring, stride. La Aguada Las Monjitas took a 14-10 victory from La Dolfina Polo Ranch in the third match of the day, with Juan Britos taking the place of injured Eduardo Novillo Astrada. Alfredo Bigatti had previously taken Eduardo’s position, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he too incurred an injury. Even with the new team line-up, the Novillo Astrada’s team secured their spot in the next round after an extremely strong performance. The final match saw Alegría beat La Albertina Abu Dhabi in a very close match, 8-7. Throughout the eight chukkas, the score flip-flopped from ties to narrow leads, with play going into an extra chukka as the bell sounded on a 7-7 tie at the end of the seventh chukka.
