The Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup First Round

Results from the first round

And we’re off, as the 10 Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup teams take to the field for the 2017 tournament.

In the first four matches, the teams battled it out for the holy contested spots in the 15 – 16 July Quarter Finals. Murus Sanctus and Talandracas were the first to grace the turf on Lawn 1 at Cowdray Park Polo Club, with Corinne Ricard’s team coming home the victors, narrowly winning 9-8 to lift the Carlos Gracida Memorial Trophy.
In the second match of the tournament, the all Brit line-up El Remanso sealed their first victory against La Bamba de Areco with two goals from Charlie Hanbury and James Harper to close play at 11-9.
As the weather drew in this morning, La Indiana and King Power took to the field for their inaugural Jaeger-LeCoultre match, with an altered line up. Hugo Taylor was chosen to substitute for ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha, whilst James ‘Jimbo’ Fewster has been chosen as the new King Power Number two. King Power beat La Indiana by 9-7 after Jimbo scored the winning goal.
In the final game of the day, the Cartier Queen’s Cup winners RH Polo took to the field against Monterosso Polo Team, who are in the midst of their first UK high goal season. In a surprising result, Ben Soleimani's RH Polo lost to Monterosso 10-9 as world number one Adolfo Cambiaso missed the last penalty.
The next match will take place on Saturday 1 July, when Sommelier will take on Talandracas at 3pm. On Sunday 2 July, RH Polo will take on Murus Sanctus at midday followed by La Bamba de Areco vs King Power at 3pm. Having not played The Cartier Queen’s Cup, Habtoor will then start their 2017 high goal campaign and Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup journey on Monday 3 July against La Indiana at midday.
Following the league matches, the Quarter Finals take place over the weekend of 15 – 16 July, Semi Finals on Wednesday 19 July and the Final on Sunday 23 July. For a full schedule of matches, please click here and make sure to check out the Polo Times social media for all the results.
