Over the weekend the hopes and dreams of the England team were dashed by Hong Kong in the Semi Finals of the 2017 Fortune Heights Snow Polo World Cup on Saturday 21 January at Tianjin Goldin Metropolitan Polo Club. It would seem that Hong Kong are the unbeatable team for England, as Hong Kong defeated our boys in the Final of the 2016 tournament. Despite the best efforts of the Brits, the final score rested on 8-7, narrowly dashing their hopes of winning the 2017 title. The second Semi Final saw another close game, with Argentina just pipping South Africa to the post, with a score of 6-5, and securing their place in Sunday’s Final. These results meant the Subsidiary Final was played between South Africa and England, and despite the best efforts of England, it was yet another defeat, with a final score of 5-3 in favour of South Africa. As Final day dawned revealing bright blue skies, it was 2016 champions Hong Kong who faced Argentina, whose previous best result was second place in 2013 also against Hong Kong. The Argentine team came out with a vengeance, determined to secure their place and champions, and a fast-paced display of polo ensued. Following four frenetic chukkas, the final score rested at 6-5 in favour of Argentina, denying Hong Kong a fourth championship title.
