Mon 9th Jan 2017HPA New Year National Club Championships continue4-6 goal begins with wins for Tally Ho Farm and Comland
The lower handicapped section of the HPA New Year National Club Championships began on Sunday 8 January at The Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. Seven teams were confirmed last week in the draw of games, however a few team name changes were made after the initial publication of the draw. Polo Biz changed their name to Good Bad & Ugly and Cool Hooves Polo became Tarantula. In the opening games on Sunday, Tally Ho Farm took their first win against Hue & Cry with a lead of just two goals and a final score of 14-12. Genevieve Meadows played exceptionally well alongside 0 goaler James Fearn and professional player Howard Smith against a 3 goal duo of Stuart Beetles and Terence Lent with 0 goaler Carla Burt. The second game of the day was equally close with Celio Garcera’s team Comland scraping a win against Tarantula. Roy Prisk and James Crossly had a tough time against another very talented player, Nell Jacob, who won The Polo Magazine Most Valuable Player Award in the HPA National Club Championships held before Christmas. Tarantula’s Leon Allen wasn’t able to get the final two-pointer needed to win and the game ended 16-15 to Comland. The next games will be played on Saturday 14 January when Comland will play Tex8n Polo and Good Bad & Ugly take on Cambridge Consultant Associates. For a full team list and scores click here.
