Argentine Open Update

Semi Finalists Decided

Following the re-scheduled games from the weekend the Quarter Finals have now been completed. Winners of the Hurlingham and Tortugas Opens, and expected finalists of this tournament Ellerstina Johor and La Dolfina Sancur Seguros have predictably sailed through to the Semi Finals. Fred Mannix and his team Alegria Assist Card will play the last game of the tournament prior to the Final against the Pieres family’s Ellerstina Johor having defeated La Irenita on Monday 28 November with a score of 13-11.

The first half of the Alegria vs La Irenita match was intense, with both teams playing an attacking game seeking the goals they needed to qualify for the Semi Finals. Alegria, with the intensity of their 10 goaler Hilario Ulloa, (who fought for all the plays and converted most of his shots into goals), gradually gained the advantage.
Despite entering the last chukka with a score of 12-8 against them, the grey and red shirts of La Irenita, with the strength of Matías MacDonough and the scoring ability of "Tito" Ruiz Guiñazú, continued their game plan not to give up. Not to be foiled, Alegria’s Hilario Ulloa converted a penalty to close the match 13-11 and take his team to the Semi Final. La Irenita may not have made it through to the next round, but then, few teams manage a win against Ellerstina. However, they have had an excellent Argentine Open campaign, and leave, with their heads held high.

Up against Cambiaso’s La Dolfina Sancur Seguros team will be Cría Yata Colony after defeating La Aguada Las Monjitas in a rather surprise win with a score of 14-10. They had a strong game with Ignacio Laprida ratcheting up three goals in the first half and although La Aguada Las Monjitas replied with strong play in the third and fourth chukkas, there was no catching Cría Yata Colony who ran out the convincing winners by a four goal margin. Cría Yata Colony play La Dolfina Sancur Seguros on Saturday 3 December.
