Brits on Top

Rocking P Lockton Triumph

Houston Polo Club hosted over 70 women for the U.S. Open Women’s Championship, which has become the largest women’s tournament in the USA. After days of competitive play, the Final was played on Sunday 13 November between Rocking P Lockton and San Saba. Rocking P Lockton featured top UK ladies Sarah Wiseman and Hazel Jackson, who faced the formidable strength of San Saba’s Sunny Hale. Rocking P Lockton dominated from the first throw-in, with Jackson opening the scores swiftly followed by a 30 yard penalty by Kristy Outhier, which set the tone for the first-half, as San Saba failed to level the scores, trailing 6 goals to 1. After a half-time regroup, San Saba came back with a strong defensive strategy, which resulted in Rocking P Lockton scoring just one goal in the third chukka. However, the goal advantage created in the first half combined with the continued strength of Rocking P Lockton proved too great to overcome as the gap continued to widen. Superb teamwork ensured the force of Sunny Hale was limited as the goal tally continued to increase, and although San Saba managed a last minute goal, the final scores settled on a convincing 9-2 victory for Rocking P Lockton over San Saba. The Brits continued to clean up in the post-match prizes, with Hazel Jackson named Most Valuable Player after scoring six of her team’s nine goals and five-year-old London, owned by Carl Price but played by Sarah Wiseman in the third chukka, was named Best Playing Pony Professional.
